Genesis Housing Group is pleased to announce the appointment of
Genie Turton to its Board. A former senior civil servant, Genie now
works as a non-executive director in the private and charitable
sectors and is also on the board of several companies.
She was Director General for Housing, Planning and Urban
regeneration in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister between
2000 and 2004, as well as being a Board member for Diversity.
She joined Whitehall in 1970 from Cambridge where she read classics
- a conventional background for civil servants at that time. But,
though she followed the core values, she never saw herself as a
conventional civil servant.
Genie is passionate about public service that serves the public,
not its providers; about results in real time - not process for the
sake of process; and about choosing, using and developing the right
people at the right time to do the right job.
Adrian Bell, Chair of Genesis Housing Group's Board, says "Genie
brings to the board of Genesis a detailed understanding and
commitment to social housing, which has been developed over a
distinguished career in public service.
We are fortunate to have recruited a person of her standing to the
board and look forward to the benefit of her oversight and advice,
in particular in areas of service delivery."
Genie Turton says "It is a great privilege to join the Genesis team
at a time when the Group has such an important job to do - and at
the start of a year that will be so full of challenge and
opportunity. I am very much looking forward to meeting many of our
customers over the next few months."
Neil Hadden, Chief Executive of Genesis Housing Group, says "We
warmly welcome Genie Turton to Genesis. Genie's substantial
experience and good judgement will be an enormous asset to the
organisation as we move forward with particular emphasis on
providing improved services to our customers. On a personal note, I
look forward to working with her again."
